Job Description:
The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad (IHB) employs over -600
employees who are organized into 14 collective bargaining units.
The Director of Labor Relations, under the direction of the Chief
Administrative Officer, will interact with representatives from
each of the collective bargaining units. The position requires the
ability to write persuasively, strong interpersonal skills,
negotiation experience and the ability to manage multiple, complex
projects concurrently. Candidates should be able to quickly analyze
a problem/or question and decide the level of importance and
necessary higher level intervention, while building trusting
relationships and function effectively with Officers, Senior
Leaders, and Department Managers. IHB seeks an employee who can
develop and implement innovative ideas and methods in the position.
The role is a full time, management position. Please note this is
not a remote position. The salary range for this position is
$115,000 - $150,000. The Director of Labor Relations will: -
Interpret collective bargaining agreements and negotiate revisions
to collective bargaining agreements; - Conduct all claims handling
on the property, compromising the claims or advancing them to
arbitration when in the railroad's interest; - Prepare arbitration
briefs and argue arbitration cases before transportation tribunals.
- Oversee contract costing research and survey management in
preparation for negotiation; - Train managers in the proper
application of agreement rules, employee discipline practices, and
other labor matters as appropriate; - Work collaboratively with the
General Counsel and HR to establish, revise or update labor and
employment policies and guidelines; - Work with HR on other related
employment matters; - Participate in the disciplinary systems
process including holding hearings as outlined by the collective
bargaining agreements. Benefits include medical, dental, vision,

commensurate with experience. - - Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: - Graduation from an accredited college or university
with a Bachelor's degree. - Juris Doctorate or Master's in Business
Administration preferred. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: - Two or more
years of experience in labor/employee relations matters, including
in developing, implementing, reviewing and/or challenging labor and
human resources policies, as a lawyer or as an administrator. - -
Experience in a union environment preferred. - Prior successful
experience in partnering with the leadership of a corporation,
division, and/or functional areas of a company or public
institution or organization to drive change such as transitioning
cultures, mergers, acquisitions, reorganization, etc. - Prior
success in leading large-scale programs and projects. - Experience
supporting a highly diverse workforce. - Knowledge of federal and
state wage and hour, labor and employment laws. - Knowledge of best
practices in employment and labor law, and federal and state
related law areas. - Knowledge in the Railway Labor Act preferred.
- Expertise in computer systems and applications to retrieve and
